Community Spotlight: 5 Things To Do In January In The West Loop

Winter has arrived and for some that means more time closer to home. Staying warm yet still being a part of the community is something that can help you fight the winter blues and keep your social life in order.

Weather you are looking to move your body, enjoy some family time, dream of summer, are looking for a date night idea and more, we’ve got you covered. Check out just a few local events happening in January near your home here at The Parker.

West Loop Branch Chicago Public Library

Don’t forget to check the library schedule for many fun community events. In January they are holding family movie nights! On Tuesday January 14th they will be playing The Croods and on Tuesday January 28th they are showing Spy Kids. The movie events run from 5:30-7:30pm. 

Cubs Convention

The annual Chicago Cubs convention will be held the weekend of January 17 to 19 at the Sheraton Grand Chicago. Stop on down and enjoy some meet and greets, autographs, panels with Cubs players, alumni and coaches, fan exhibits and more.

It starts on Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. and kicks off with a late night style talk show about baseball tales and comedy sketches from Cubs players and executives. Saturday stop on down for one of the many exhibits and fan experience sessions. Sunday will end things off with additional autograph sessions and two panel discussions. 

Free Shred415 + Mariano’s West Loop Workout Party

Head out to Mariano’s on Saturday, Jan. 18 and join a free live group workout. The workout will start at 9 a.m. and feature a live DJ from Mode Events. Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in, bring a towel and join the fun. The workout will be about 45 minutes with refreshments and giveaways to follow.

Winter Brew

This is the Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce’s take on an indoor version of the Chicago Street Festival. The DANK Haus German Cultural Center is where you can find this year’s Winter Brew. This event is on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 1 to 10 p.m. on the 5th and 6th floor. Local breweries from around Chicago will join in serving up at least two craft beers or ciders and some limited release drinks throughout the day. Be sure to purchase your tickets ahead of time as there are two sessions you can attend, the afternoon or the evening. Head on out to enjoy a warm and toasty street type festival.

West Loop Wedding Walk

The 3rd annual West Loop Wedding Walk will be held on Sunday, January 26th from noon to 4 p.m. This event was created to help couples have the wedding of their dreams, while taking some of the stress away. The afternoon will allow you to try samples of food and drinks, take home some goodies and see what all the vendors in the West Loop have to offer. Make sure to get your tickets prior to the event. Registration starts at 10 a.m. and the first 200 people will receive a swag bag. Shuttles will be running starting at noon and will take you from one location to the next, so no need to worry about parking.
